Mission Statement

The Club aims to promote enjoyment in the skills of marksmanship with firearms through practice and competition. Equal Opportunity Membership of the Club is open to anyone interested in the sport regardless of age, sex, disability, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs The Committee provides an annual programme of events and competitions which caters for all levels of shooting skill.

Club Rules (Section 5. 6 & 7)

These pages are intended to provide guidance for normal shooting days. they are section 5, 6 & 7 of the document containing the Club's Constitution, Rules and Safe Management Procedures available from the Club Secretary.The general organisation of the Club and conditions pertaining to membership are covered in the management document kept at the range. The following "everyday" rules also apply:

THE RANGE OFFICER'S DECISION is at all times final and must be obeyed without question.

SMOKING OR NAKED FLAMES are not allowed in any of the container cabins or on the firing point. No firearms, propellants of any kind or primers are to be stored in any of the containers on the range.

NO to DPM wear on the range       YES to Ear Muffs & Safety Shooting Glasses

CONDUCT AND DRESS Members are expected not to do or say anything that may bring the Club or the sport of target shooting into disrepute. Animals are not allowed into the firing point shelter during firing. Hearing protection must be used preferably "ear muff" design.  Minors of 16 years or less must only use ear muffs. Eye protection is strongly recommended. Members must keep a record of any competitions which they enter. Entries in the range attendance register must be legible, clear and accurate. members are expected to help on Club maintenance days

Dress should be safe and suitable for target shooting. In keeping with National Guidelines, camouflage or Disruptive Pattern Material clothing is not encouraged as being suitable for a covered firing point.

MEMBERSHIP is open to the following categories: Adult; Concessionary Adult (in receipt of State pension, and/or spouse/partner; Junior adult aged 17 to 21; Junior aged 10 - 17; all subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period of six months and regular attendance.

Children under the age of 9 years are not allowed on the range! Anyone using an air arm (non Firearms Certificate or FAC) MUST be aged 10 years or more.          Anyone using a firearm must be aged 14 years or more! Those aged between 9 and 17 years must be supervised on a 1:1 basis by a full member of the club in the presence of the adult responsible for them.                                                                     Members must be of good character and not prohibited from handling firearms. Regular attendance by full members is required, the minimum of shooting visits being six to ensure continued membership. If a prolong period of absence occurs (e.g. for illness), it would be helpful if those concerned contact the secretary.

GUEST AND VISITORS Guest without a firearms certificate may shoot on the range under 1:1 supervision on notified Guest Days. Visitors with an FAC or those shooting non FAC air arms may only make a maximum of 3 visits in addition to Guest Days after which they must apply for membership. Guest and visitors must complete the required form (available from the Club Secretary) and pay the guest fee before using the range. Guest or visitors are the responsibility of the full member who proposed them and who will ensure their safe conduct, compliance with the range rules and safe handling of firearms.

ON THE FIRING LINE Everyone on the firing line must comply with the orders of the Range Officer without question. On arrival, members must first find a vacant lane before completing the register and place their firearm in its case on the firing bench  and collecting their lane number and target stand and green board. Members shooting in a recognise competition have priority of place. Firearms must only be carried in a closed secure case, or having been first cleared by the Range Officer, unloaded with the action open and hammer at half-cock and uncapped as appropriate.

  • No uncased firearm is to be brought into the firing line shelter.

  • No firearm may be removed from its case or handled unless the range is live

  • No firearm is to be pointed towards anyone at anytime

  • No loaded firearm is to be pointed above the sloping sand back stop at any time

  • Green separating boards must be used between lanes on the main range

  • Members are responsible for erecting and removing the board on their right

  • On completing their shooting, members must return their targets and board to store and leave their firing point clean and tidy. Empty cartridge cases must not be left on the firing bench or floor.

  • Firing may only start on the signal of the Range Officer (1 long Whistle)

  • A firing detail normally lasts for 15 minutes to accommodate all the disciplines on the firing point at the discretion of the Range Officer

  • The order to stop firing is a series of short whistles and must be complied with promptly

  • On the order to stop firing, firearms must be unloaded and left on the firing bench with the breech open ready for inspection, while members stand clear of the yellow line

  • Detachable magazines must be removed

  • Muzzle loading firearms must be left uncapped with the hammer on half cocked

  • No-one may go forward of the firing line without the permission of the Range Officer

  • No firearm may be handled once the line has been cleared

  • When a member has finished shooting, he/she must have their firearm proven clear by another member or the Range Officer before putting it in its case at the firing point

  • No firearm to be taken back to the seating or car park areas unless it has been proven clear and returned to its case

Firearms and Ammunition Members must ensure that their firearms are safe to use,  that the use them safely and that their ammunition complies with the requirements of the Range Safety Certificate. Home loaded centre-fire rifle ammunition MUST be tested by the clubs chronograph to ensure compliance with the safety certificate and a record of the test made in the relevant log book. In addition, spot checks of such ammunition will be made. This rule does not apply to gallery rifle pistol-calibre or black powder ammunition.

Targets Targets at all distances must be fixed on the taller stands when shooting free standing and on the shorter stands when shooting prone so that no shots strike above the back stop. Targets must not have ricochet-inducing properties or be of unacceptable form (e.g. photographs of humans are not acceptable)
